Level 20 is pleased to publish its updated European gender diversity report (2022) incorporating additional comprehensive analysis of female representation in European PE and VC firms on an individual country basis including by global AUM category. This can be found in the Appendices of the report.
Furthermore, to enable GP firms (and their LP investors) to easily benchmark levels of diversity in their own teams and to compare to peers, we have also supplemented the research data with a benchmarking tool.
Where we have data on AUM bandings, we have also included gender data by AUM as well as data by AUM on firms with all-male investment teams.
Firms are categorised into the following Global AUM bands
- VC proxy: <£100m
- Small: £100m-£500m
- Medium: £500m-£5bn
- Large: £5bn-£15bn
- Mega: > £15bn
By disaggregating data on an AUM basis, we can start to identify the type and size of firm that is leading on diversity, as well as those firms that are lagging behind. Our goal is not to criticise individual firms but to identify cause and effect to understand the drivers of diversity and to support firms to implement change.
We are now collaborating with our local Level 20 committees, sponsor firms and industry bodies to explore local cultural and social influences and viewpoints with the aim of identifying potential solutions to increase gender diversity, particularly in investment teams.
Armed with this knowledge we will be able to assist local industry bodies and firms to implement country-specific plans for change
Level 20 intend to repeat data collection every 2 years so that firms can measure progress on a consistent basis.
Level 20 Sponsor firms and members can utilise exclusive tools and materials provided by Level 20 while organisations can also refer to publicly available Level 20 research to promote understanding. With considered action firms can improve gender diversity at all levels through attracting diverse talent into the industry and ensuring that they retain and promote existing talent on an equitable basis.
